In this report none of the informants can and will be mentioned as they asked to stay anonymous, we would like to thank the members of a local fresh water forum who contacted us and supplied us with all of the detail to take this case on.

This morning I received a call from two informants, who notified us of a concern that they had. They were aware of a group or individual that was fishing at the Roodeplaat dam on the NTVL grounds over the weekend up until yesterday still. The group had 10 keepnets in the water and removed more than 120 fish from the dam, the fish was transported to another private dam, where the owner paid these guys for the fish. Some of the fish even landed up in this individual’s butchery that he owns. Some of the fish weighed up to 11kg’s that was removed. Some of the fish apparently also landed up being sold in the butchery.

I contacted Roodeplaat law enforcement and they put me in contact with the local fauna and flora agents, they are busy investigating the case, and will take it up with the necessary amount of legal steps. The reasons that we decided to take this further is because of the new bio diversity act and rules that is currently in place, which makes it illegal to move and stock carp without the correct permits and documents. This is to protect our sport and to try and keep the privilege that was granted to us to keep fishing for carp in dams where they already exist. DEAT is busy mapping areas were invasive species will be allowed and where they won’t be allowed, they are taking anglers into consideration while doing the mapping, and we need to keep it that way by working with them and not against them.

This was done with the upmost good intentions, and was also reported by conventional anglers, who thought that it is not the way to do things, again thank you for reporting this, we will keep following up on this case.

Feedback : The authorities acted on the same day, and they paid the owner of the butchery a visit, they are taking the case futher, the owner of the grounds will also take the matter futher.

Publick feedback :

Great stuff ek hoop hulle poofies draai.

I have a problem with people who act in this manner and yes they should be taken on. I am by birth a kurper fisherman but they have become so far and few between due to netting, thats why I have become an all rounder. I must say Carp fishing is pleasant and am starting to enjoy it.

I have only been to Roodeplaat once by the river section.

I don't think there is a problem with any one keeping a fish or two for his own use, but when it becomes a commercial business then a patch of water gets buggered up very quickly. We just do not have the resources to allow something like that.

I wonder if that guy is still selling the fish he catches in Harties. It was even on Tv and nobody did anything about it. He claimed it's the fish that causes the polution there and they have to be removed, was even on 50-50. Like I said he was selling it to the locals.

Lekka plek we live in eh :-(
